The first production Bf 109B-1s were delivered in early 1937, and on November 11th of that year one raised the landplane world speed record to 379.38 mph. Bf 109s had taken part in the attack on Poland which had marked the beginning of World War II and had played a significant role in all subsequent Luftwaffe fighter operations, making their last major sortie, involving 120 aircraft, on April 7, 1945. In addition to production for the Luftwaffe, Bf 109s had been exported to several other countries. Although no accurate overall production figures exist, it is estimated that some 35,000 airplanes were built, a figure second only to the llyushin ll-2/ll-10 series, of which 42,330 are reported to have been produced. The Bf 109E was the first large-scale production version of the airplane, introducing the 1,100-hp Daimler-Benz DB 601A engine with direct fuel injection and improved superchargers. The later Bf 109G-6 used one Daimler-Benz DB 605AM inverted V-12 piston engine developing 1,800-hp with water/methanol injection; giving the airplane a maximum speed of 386 mph at 22,965 feet, service ceiling of 38,550 feet, and range of 447 miles. Airplane armament was two 51-caliber MG 131 machine guns and three 20-mm MG 151 cannon. All airplane models are Hand Carved, Hand Painted Mahogany and come fully assembled with removable desk stand.
