 llyushin ll-m3 Sturmovik model airplane

One of the most formidable military airplanes of World War II, the llyushin ll-2 was produced in vast numbers, Soviet sources giving the total figure as 36,163 airplanes, more than any other aircraft, ever! (The next closest competitor was the Messerschmitt Bf 109, with an estimated 35,000 airplanes built.) The first prototype of the ll-2 flew on October 12, 1940. Official trials ended just three months before the German invasion in June, 1941. By then, large-scale production of the ll-2 had been started, the first unit receiving its aircraft in May, 1941. A new version of the airplane, the ll-2m3, made its first appearance at Stalingrad in early 1943. Tested during 1942, this plane had redesigned wings with 15-degree sweepback on the outer panels. Performance and flying qualities of the airplane were much improved, and the Type 3 went on to become the most important and numerous version of the ll-2. These airplanes continued in service for several years after the end of World War II with some East European regimes. Between the ll-2 and its replacement, the very similar looking ll-10, there were a reported 42,330 airplanes produced. The ll-2m3 was powered by one 1,720-hp Mikulin AM-38F piston engine, giving the airplane a maximum speed of 255 mph at 4,920 feet, service ceiling of 14,845 feet, and a range of 475 miles. Airplane armament was two 23-mm VYa cannon and two 30-caliber ShKAS machine guns (all wing-mounted) and one 50-caliber UBT machine gun for the gunner, plus 220-lb. bombs (four carried internally and two under the fuselage), or two 551-lb. bombs (under fuselage), eight RS-82 rockets or four RS-132 rockets under outer wing panels.

All airplane models are Hand Carved, Hand Painted Mahogany and come fully assembled with removable desk stand.
