Evaluated by the US Navy during 1928 under the designation XF4B-1, this biplane was flown at the Navy Test Center, Anacostia, Maryland; and was also tested by US Army pilots operating from the same airfield. As a result of US Navy evaluation, 27 airplanes were ordered under the designation F4B-1. These biplanes combined the arrester hook of the Model 83 with the Model 89 configuration as tested, and were built under the company identification of Boeing Model 99. The first production airplane was flown on May 6, 1929, and all aircraft were delivered within less than four months. Production of this family of airplanes eventually totaled 586, including several variants. The Boeing Model 235 (F4B-4) used one 550-hp Pratt & Whitney R-1340-16 radial engine, giving this biplane a maximum speed of 188 mph at 6,000 feet, climb to 5,000 feet in 2 minutes 42 seconds, service ceiling of 26,900 feet, and a range of 370 miles. Airplane armament was two 30-caliber fixed forward-firing machine guns. All airplane models are Hand Carved, Hand Painted Mahogany and come fully assembled with removable desk stand.
