Fokker Dr.1 "Red Baron" model airplane

German pilots serving on the Western Front were quick to appreciate the high rate of climb and remarkable maneuverability of the Sopwith Triplane which RNAS squadrons were flying in the spring of 1917. When reports of this airplane's capability were transmitted to Germany, that nation's manufacturers lost little time in developing experimental airplanes of this category. Production of this triplane was almost immediate, starting in the early summer of 1917 under the initial designation F.1, quickly changed to the official military designation of Fokker Dr.1, (Dr for dreidecker, or triplane). The Dr. 1 soon gained a somewhat exaggerated reputation of capability, probably because it was an airplane used by the legendary, and very capable, "Red Baron", Manfred von Richthofen, who favored this triplane for its superb maneuverability and high rate of climb. All the heavy items such as engine, fuel, guns, ammunition, and pilot are grouped close to the center of gravity. So far as maximum speed was concerned, the Dr. 1 was inferior to contemporary Allied fighter/scouts. (Von Richthofen later switched to an Albatros D.V; World Air Corps model #AM303-AR.) When production ended in May, 1918, more than 300 airplanes had been built, and the Dr.1 remained in service until the summer of 1918. The Dr.1 was powered by one 110-hp Thulin-built Le Rhone or Oberursel Ur.11 9-cylinder rotary piston engine, giving the plane a maximum speed of 103 mph at 13,125 feet, climb to 3,280 feet in 2 minutes 54 seconds, service ceiling of 20,000 feet, and endurance of 1 hour and 30 minutes. Armament on the airplane was two fixed forward-firing 7.92-mm (31-caliber) LMG 08/15 machine guns.

All airplane models are Hand Carved, Hand Painted Mahogany and come fully assembled with removable desk stand.
