Although the US Navy had accepted the shortcomings of the F2F, Grumman was determined to improve the directional stability, spinning characteristics, and general maneuverability of its airplanes. This led to the development of the F3F. Initial deliveries were made in January, 1936, with this airplane entering service aboard the USS Ranger in April and the USS Saratoga in June. F3Fs were retired on October 10, 1941, and more than 100 of the airplanes then served with training units. This single-seat shipboard fighter used one 950-hp Wright 9-cylinder R-1820-22 radial piston engine, giving the plane a maximum speed of 264 mph, cruising speed of 150 mph, service ceiling of 33,200 feet, and a range of 980 miles. Airplane armament was two 30-caliber Browning machine guns. All airplane models are Hand Carved, Hand Painted Mahogany and come fully assembled with removable desk stand.
