As a result of the January 1918 airplane fighter competition, the Fokker D.VII was ordered into immediate production, its overall capability being so much better than that of the Albatros D.V series that Albatros Werke GmbH was ordered to build this airplane under subcontract at both of its factories. Within three months of the competition the D.VII was in operational use, its performance matched only by the British Sopwith Snipe and the French Spad XIII. By the time of the World War I Armistice on November 11, 1918, more than 700 D.VIIs had been delivered. Such was the potential of this airplane that the Peace Treaty specified that all machines of this type must be handed over to the Allies, the D.VII and Zeppelin airships being the only German aircraft singled out for confiscation. Fokker managed to smuggle a number of D.VIIs and components for these airplanes out of Germany and into his native Holland, where he set up a new airplane factory. Production of the D.VII continued for several years after World War I, new or ex-German airplanes serving with the forces of many European nations. This single-seat fighter/scout biplane was powered by one 185-hp BMW III 6-cylinder piston engine, giving the airplane a maximum speed of 124 mph at 3,280 feet, climb to 16,405 feet in 16 minutes, service ceiling of 22,965 feet, and endurance of 1 hour 30 minutes. Airplane armament was two fixed forward-firing 7.92-mm (31-caliber) LMG 08/15 machine guns. All airplane models are Hand Carved, Hand Painted Mahogany and come fully assembled with removable desk stand. Dimensions: Wingspan, 14 3/4" -Length, 12" -Scale, 1/23 Item AM311-BR - Discontinued
