This airplane was given the SS.19B designation in October, 1932, with the installation of the 536-hp Bristol Mercury VIS radial engine. Production was began in 1934, and initial deliveries of the plane to the RAF were made on May 25, 1935. Hawker Aircraft Ltd. had taken over the Gloster company during 1934, with the result that the major production version, the Gauntlet Mk II (204 airplanes built) embodied Hawker construction techniques in the fuselage structure, but the airplane was otherwise generally similar. By 1937, the Gloster Gauntlet equipped no fewer than 14 squadrons of the RAF Fighter Command. The Gloster Gauntlet Mk II used one 640-hp Bristol Mercury 9-cylinder VIS2 radial piston engine, giving the airplane a maximum speed of 230 mph at 15,800 feet, service ceiling of 33,500 feet, and a range of 460 miles. Armament on the plane consisted of two fixed 7.7-mm (303-caliber) Vickers machine guns. All airplane models are Hand Carved, Hand Painted Mahogany and come fully assembled with removable desk stand.
