During 1956 the US Navy held a design competition to finalize the details of its requirement for a high-performance all-weather utility helicopter. Kaman was adjudged the winner, and in late 1957 received a contract for four prototype and 12 production helicopters. The Seasprite , as it was named, is of conventional helicopter configuration with four-bladed main and tail rotors. The Seasprite SH-2F is powered by two 1,350-shp General Electric T58-GE-8F turboshafts, giving the helicopter a maximum speed of 165 mph at sea level, service ceiling of 22,500 feet, and a range with maximum fuel of 422 miles. Helicopter armament can include air-to-surface missiles, torpedoes, rockets, or guns. The following model is in precision polymer to exacting specifications. It is hand painted, and comes fully assembled with removable desk stand.
