Douglas A-26 (B-26 ) Invader model airplane

The Douglas A-26 Invader (B-26 between 1948-1965) was a United States twin-engined light attack bomber built by the Douglas Aircraft Co. during World War II that also saw service during several of the Cold War's major conflicts. A limited number of highly modified aircraft served in combat until 1969. The last A-26 in active US service was assigned to the Air National Guard; that aircraft was retired from military service in 1972 by the US Air Force and the National Guard Bureau and donated to the National Air and Space Museum.

Initial deliveries of the 1,355 airplanes built were made in April, 1944. Missions with the 9th Air Force in Europe began in November, 1944, and at the same time, the plane became operational in the Pacific. With a maximum speed of 355 mph, the A-26 was the fastest US bomber of World War II. USAF A-26B and A-26C aircraft became B-26B and B-26C in 1948, and retained this designation until 1962. Both versions of the airplane saw extensive service in the Korean War, and were again used in a counter-insurgency role in Vietnam. B-26s were also used for training, transport, freighter and staff transport, RPV control, night reconnaissance, and missile guidance research. Many airplanes were also supplied to friendly nations under the Military Assistance Program. Invaders remained in USAF service until well into the 1970s. Many A-26s were converted to executive, survey, photographic, and even firefighting aircraft. The A-26 was powered by two Pratt & Whitney 2,000 hp R-2800 engines, giving the airplane a maximum speed of 355 mph at 15,000 feet, cruising speed of 284 mph, service ceiling of 22,100 feet, and normal range of 1,400 miles. Airplane armament was ten 50-caliber machine guns and up to 4,000 lbs. of bombs.

All airplane models are Hand Carved, Hand Painted Mahogany and come fully assembled with removable desk stand.
