The P-51 Mustang, although a late comer to World War II with the very first production airplane not flying until May 1, 1941, was utilized extensively in all theaters. Few would contest that this airplane was the fastest fighter of World War II, filling a need that had cost many lives during the first two years of the war; the need being for a long range escort fighter to accompany the B-17 flying fortress during the raids into occupied Europe. Arguably, one of the best airplanes of World War II, the P-51 Mustang last saw combat during the Korean war where they were extremely outclassed by the MiG-15. With a total of 15,386 Mustangs built, you can still see these airplanes today at air shows and air races, one modified racing version in recent years holding a world speed record for piston-engine aircraft of 499.048 mph. The P-51D was powered by one 1,695-hp Packard Merlin V-1650-7 V-12 piston engine, giving the airplane a maximum speed of 437 mph at 25,000 feet, service ceiling of 41,900 feet, and a maximum range of 2,080 miles. Airplane armament was six 50-caliber machine guns, plus up to two 1,000-lb. bombs or six 5-in. rocket projectiles.

All airplane models are Hand Carved, Hand Painted Mahogany and come fully assembled with removable desk stand.
