Grumman E-2C Hawkeye model airplane

The original concept of AEW (airborne early warning) was developed during World War II, when it was realized that an airborne surveillance radar could overcome the range limitations imposed by the curvature of the Earth. The first E-2 prototype first flew on October 21, 1960. In the summer of 1971, following the first flight of a prototype on January 20, Grumman began production of the E-2C Hawkeye. There were 164 E-2Cs built, with several going to other countries. The E-2C had a maximum speed of 374 mph, long-range cruising speed of 310 mph, service ceiling of 30,800 ft, and endurance with maximum fuel of 6 hours 6 minutes.
