Ordered in May of 1952, the first prototype was flown on March 25, 1955, and deliveries began in March, 1957. Representing a development of just less than four years from receipt of the original prototype contract, this was no mean achievement for a new carrier-based fighter of high supersonic capability. The Crusader remained in production over a period of eight years, the final series of F-8Es being delivered to the French navy in January 1965. The Crusader provided the US Navy and Marines with a valuable aircraft which saw service in Vietnam. The last USMC reconnaissance aircraft was retired in the late 1980s. The F-8E was an improved production version with an 18,000 lb thrust J57-P-20A turbojet, advanced radar, and increased armament. There were 286 F-8Es built. All airplane models are Hand Carved, Hand Painted Mahogany and comes fully assembled with removable desk stand.
