The F-94 prototype, a modified F-80, first flew on April 16, 1949, less than a year-and-a-half after the requirement for the aircraft was made. Production of these two-seat F-94 Starfires totaled 854, and gave a decade of valuable service, serving first with the USAF in Korea, and remaining in use with Air National Guard units until 1959. The F-94C used one Pratt & Whitney J48-P-5 turbojet with standard thrust of 6,350 lb (8,750 lb with afterburning). The plane had a maximum speed of 640 mph at sea level, service ceiling of 51,400 ft, and standard range of 805 miles.
