Although the Heinkel He 111 was designed ostensibly as a civil airliner, its military potential was of greater importance. The first prototype was flown on February 24, 1935. Six of the He 111C commercial models entered service with Lufthansa in 1936. Development of the military version continued, with initial military deliveries in late 1936. The Heinkel He 111 was used as a bomber mainly in the early part of the war; by the end of World War II the He 111s were virtuallly flown in a transport role only, having been replaced in a bombing role primarily by the Junkers Ju 88. All airplane models are Hand Carved, Hand Painted Mahogany and come fully assembled with removable desk stand.
