The Fokker E series, Eindecker (monoplane), is significant as it was the first plane to have synchronized machine-gun firing through the propeller, which made it a tremendously successful fighter. On April 19, 1915, a French Morane-Saulnier Type L was forced down behind the German lines after being hit by anti-aircraft fire. It was discovered that its pilot, Roland Garros, had devised a scheme that allowed his single Hotchkiss machine gun to be fired forward through the propeller disc; he had attached wedge-shaped steel plates the the back of the propeller blades to deflect any bullets that might hit them. German officers examining the damaged Type L saw immediately the significance of a fixed forward-firing machine gun that could be aimed easily by the pilot. It resulted in Fokker being approached to develop a more sophisticated means of arriving at the same result, leading to the interrupter gear that "timed" the bullets to pass harmlessly between the spinning propeller blades. It was these early Fokker E-types that brought the so-called "Fokker Scourge" when, from the autumn of 1915 to the spring of 1916, they played havoc with the B. E. 2c units of the Royal Flying Corps. All airplane models are Hand Carved, Hand Painted Mahogany and come fully assembled with removable desk stand.
